Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

The U.S. apparel and footwear industry is committed to ensuring that our products are manufactured under lawful, humane, and ethical conditions. At AAFA, “We Wear Social Responsibility” just like our members. As such, AAFA develops tools and resources to assist AAFA members, and the industry at large, in their social responsibility efforts. The list below represents many of those tools and resources.

Publicly-Available Resources

Worker Safety Resources

This page provides resources to apparel and footwear companies to use as they work to improve the safety of their workers in their supplier factories around the world.

Conflict Minerals

This page is intended as public resource for the apparel, footwear, and related fashion industry as they work to comply with the SEC final rule on conflict minerals. The page includes the AAFA Conflict Minerals Guidance, a step by step guidance to the industry on how to comply with the conflict minerals rule as well as links to other key resources.

AAFA Member-Only Resources

In addition to the publicly-accessible resources above, AAFA has developed a series of corporate social responsibility (CSR) resources available exclusively to its members.

These resources include:

Joint Disclosure Guide: Meeting the UK Modern Slavery & California Transparency Laws
An AAFA Member Compliance Publication

Due to the similar goals and requirements of the United Kingdom (UK) Modern Slavery Act and the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act, AAFA believes companies can publish a single disclosure to comply with both laws. In this document, AAFA has created a comprehensive guide for AAFA members to assist them in complying with both the letter and spirit of each law, including clarification of the requirements for a disclosure statement and an example joint baseline statement which would satisfy both laws.

CSR Benchmarking Survey

At the request of AAFA members, AAFA conducted the first-ever industry-wide CSR benchmarking survey. The AAFA CSR Benchmarking Survey provides AAFA member companies with a barometer of how its company’s CSR programs compare to the rest of the apparel/footwear/retail industry.

Factory Audit Training/Checklist

AAFA and the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) developed this tool to help responsible sourcing/CSR teams to better engage with Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), Sourcing, and other company functions that are in factories on a regular basis.

The AAFA/RILA tool provides a training template and a checklist for basic social compliance issues.
